History of Mercer County Joint Township Community Hospital

September, 2008 - Mercer County Joint Township Community Hospital (Mercer Health) began as a 48-bed primary acute care facility in 1950 as Our Lady of Mercy Hospital. It was operated by the Sisters of Mercy, a Catholic Order from Cincinnati, for over 20 years.

In the early 1970’s, the hospital was sold to a consortium of seven townships located in the southern part of Mercer County. Since then, this hospital district has grown to include 12 of the 14 townships located in Mercer County. In 2004, Mercer County Joint Township Community Hospital became known as “Mercer Health” to better reflect its commitment to serve the health needs of residents in Mercer County and the surrounding area beyond traditional hospital services.
